Data storage and access via Fog Computing
What if one mobile could download software updates and then share them with other phones? Today, though we have IOT, but our devices don’t have storage to store all information they need to function properly. Hence, they’re always transmitting and receiving data to provide you with services. This transmission is happening via cloud server.
Cisco, recently coined another term - “Fog Computing” - IBM coined another term “Edge Computing” for the same concept. It’s an extension of cloud computing, to the “edge” of an enterprise’s network. Fog computing helps the operation of compute, storage and networking services between devices and cloud computing data centers.
An edge device is any piece of hardware that controls data flow at the boundary between two networks. Edge devices fulfill a variety of roles, depending on what type of device they are, but they essentially serve as network entry (or exit) points. Some common functions of edge devices are the transmission, routing, processing, monitoring, filtering, translation and storage of data passing between networks. Edge devices are used by enterprises and service providers.
